My research aims to study heterotrophic bacteria isolated from Antarctic sources. The main objective of these studies is to isolate and characterise culturable bacteria from abiotic (e.g. waters, soils, rocks, cryoconites) and animal (e.g. seals, birds) samples using phenotypic tests, DNA fingerprinting and sequencing techniques, and chemotaxonomic analyses. This approach enables the study of the diversity and distribution of Antarctic bacterial species, the assessment of their phenotypic, physiological and genotypic variability and the description of new bacterial taxa.
